Pediatric Dentistry

Dental care should start young to help children build good oral health habits. Not only do early visits maintain their oral health, but they also help children get familiar with the dentist. If your children haven’t had an appointment in the last 6 months or have an oral health concern, reach out to our Hillsborough office for a pediatric dentistry visit.

Why Pediatric Dentistry?

Pediatric dentistry sets the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Early visits not only protect children’s teeth but also help them feel comfortable in the dental chair. Some of the key benefits include:

  • EARLY PREVENTION: Detects cavities and developmental issues before they become serious.
  • HEALTHY HABITS: Encourages children to build good brushing and flossing routines from a young age.
  • COMFORTABLE EXPERIENCE: Regular visits reduce fear and help children feel at ease with dental care.
  • GUIDANCE FOR PARENTS: Provides personalized advice on nutrition, hygiene, and home care.
  • LONG-TERM CONFIDENCE: Creates positive associations with dental visits, supporting lifelong oral health.

By starting care early, our team at Precision Dental Group helps ensure your child grows up with strong teeth, healthy gums, and confidence in their smile.

What Age Should My Kid Start?

Our clinic recommends pediatric visits starting at age 2. Once children have a couple of teeth, we can help them become comfortable with the process of visiting a dentist and keeping their teeth healthy.

Our Pediatric Dentistry Offerings

Parents can trust our team to be thorough during a visit while also offering a comfortable atmosphere that helps your child have positive experiences at the dentist. Here are some of the things we do at visits with your child.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that all children have a dental checkup every 6 months. Our exams are gentle and quick. We typically do a cleaning and exam together once your child is old enough to do cleanings.

Exams help your child get ready for a lifetime of healthy smiles by introducing them to the dentist and allowing our team to catch any issues early.

Children’s cleaning starts during toddler years. Special instruments are used to remove plaque and tartar. We will also review brushing and flossing techniques with both you and your child as well as provide nutritional counseling on diets to reduce the risk of cavities developing. After a cleaning and exam, we will give your child a kid-appropriate toothbrush and toothpaste. Visits to our office aren’t just educational, they are fun!

In addition to detecting cavities, X-rays are needed to diagnose developmental problems, bone disease, and plan for orthodontic treatment. The amount of radiation from digital dental radiographs is extremely small and the lowest it has ever been in dentistry. Click here to learn how our technologies keep you and your child safe.

Along with our advanced X-rays, we use intraoral scanners that take detailed scans of teeth, allowing our dentists to catch things that the naked eye might not notice.

Fluoride is a natural element that prevents tooth decay. It reduces mineral loss in teeth and minimizes acid damage from bacteria. Children with high risk for decay will benefit from topical fluoride treatment.

Fluoride is safe for your child with proper use and instruction. If you do not have fluoride added to your water at home, this varnish is especially important in helping to prevent tooth decay.

Sealants can “seal off” tiny grooves and pits in back molars that are difficult to clean even with careful brushing and flossing. We especially recommend sealants on adult teeth for children at high risk for cavities to help preserve their health for years to come.

Sealant application is quick and simple. After the tooth is cleaned and dried, sealant is added to the tooth and allowed to harden with a special light. Sealant can last for years and protect adult teeth from cavities. We will check the integrity of your child’s sealants during their routine visits.
